Date: 2/25/12 1:17 AM Fabric.com has dozens of types of lovely raw silk -- many at just $3.99 a yard. I had previously ordered medium weight, multicolored tweed at Fabric.com's original $9.98 price, and it is beautiful, just perfect for a spring jacket. Keep in mind that the fabric is 44 inches wide.
I'm planning to use my fabric to make this jacket.
Retailmenot.com lists many new coupon codes for fabric.com, including one (facebook50) that will give you 20% off your order -- with no minimum purchase required. So you could buy 2.5 yards of $3.99 a yard fabric and pay less than $12, including shipping. Or you could buy 9 yards for less than $28 with free shipping.

Date: 2/25/12 9:50 AM I can't believe it. Spent hours last night organizing fabrics, have way too much already. But no raw silk tweeds! Perfect for summer work outfits, which I sorely need.
Truly, thank you for posting about this sale and the coupon. I got yardage in 3 colors. ------ www.elledechene.blogspot.com |

Date: 2/25/12 11:53 AM Jeannie, the multicolored tweed fabric I bought is dry clean only, and it would be perfect for a tailored jacket. If you do not sew jackets, it would make a very nice skirt.
One great thing about the fabric is that it has all the jewel tones, so it will go with many spring and summer tops. I also bought this black and white raw silk, which is lighter in weight but also intended for a jacket.
KathySews, I plan to use Ambiance Bemberg rayon lining, which I already have in my stash. Fabric.com sells Ambiance lining in a limited range of colors. Ambiance is the perfect lining for warm weather clothes because the rayon fabric breathes, unlike polyester. ------ The essence of life is statistical improbability on a colossal scale.

Date: 2/25/12 1:46 PM Nancy you are naughty.
I have been reading all the threads about paring down stashes and holding firm.
I work too many hours to have much time to sew and I do not have a lifestyle that needs silk jackets or skirts.
But a couple:
Khaki Patches
and
Butter embroidery
Are calling to me.
I think the patch one could be made into something for my more casual lifestyle.
