I want to be able to catalog my embroidery designs and be able to combine/alter designs for my Bernina Deco 340. I need to know the best software to be able to do this. I see the different names of Embird, Buzz-tools, Embrillance advertised in the embroidery magazines. What about SewArt, Sofhiesews and Art & Stitch? Any research on these by members?

What kind of operating system do you have. Windows?

If you are in the US, I would not recommend SophieSews software. Or, any foreign sites.

You can get trials of Catalog Express at Ann The Gran, Design Studio at baby lock and Embird at Secrets of Machine Embroidery.

Buzz-Tools and Embrilliance have demos you can watch.

Before purchasing any software be sure it will save in the format of your embroidery machine.

If your computer's operating system is Mac, you will be limited to Embrilliance. Embrilliance is offered in two versions; Windows and Mac.

Most machine embroidery software is Windows based. To run with Mac you will need to install Fusion.

For sure, take Sofehiesews off your list. Even those people whom have and use lots of complicated full manual digitizing programs can't make that one work or be workable/useable.

I don't have your machine, but do have and know several major full manual digitizing programs made by Compucon, Wilcom and Pulse, which is probably just much more than you need or want to do, but I suggest to completely just forget about that old free downloading supposed Sofie Sews program that someone made or started to make, once upon a time.

It simply does not work for the most part at all, or even function in any kind of logical manner, for hardly anything, as any kind of embroidery software or editing or digitizing program.

It may have been someone's brain child/good idea or not at one time or another, but even if they started to create the program there, they left it unfinshed, things not connected and not working, a pretty strange logic on how things would even work there and pretty much just unusable. And it seems that was a long time ago and seems like they just never came back to even try finish it or fix any bugs or try to make it a real working program at all. So I think there really is a good reason why I think almost no one uses that one or is able to use it much.

The question was catalog and editing - not digitizing.

I have found a spreadsheet about embroidery software. Here is the link.
A preview of the file is on the rightside of the screen. It is a pdf.

Patti Ann,

What digitizing software do you use? Is it easy to use?

Thanks,
rebe

Bother PE Design and Designer's Gallery are not that difficult.

You have to be sure the art has bold outlines that connect or the colors will not fill as intended.

Find trials and use simple clip art for learning how to use the software.

You also have to have a lot of uninterrupted time.

I'm moving my stuff to a Mac OSX and, of course, running into compatibility issues. I just looked at Embrilliance Thumbnailer. I can access my WIN based software on my laptop, but would still like to see designs on the Mac. Has anyone tried creating a Custom Input line that will tell the OS to open *.pes files as *.jpg?

Wow! I just received a response to this question on the Mac Community Forum. Check this out: Needleworks

In addition to the BritonLeap tools I'd look at StitchBuddy to view / organize / modify embroideries.
