I'm making a dress from some beautiful cotton tweed from Emmaonesock. She suggests dry cleaning. I'm afraid to toss this into the washer and line dry as I usually would fine cotton fabric. How would you pre-treat this fabric? I intend to dry clean the finished garment. Do you think a good steaming would do the trick? I've considered london shrink but I've only used that for wool in the past. I really don't want to take it to the dry cleaners prior to sewing, but will if that's the best option. Thanks in advance.

Do you have enough fabric to cut out a measured square that you could wash and dry--or even London shrink--just to see how the fabric will behave?

I do, and that's a great idea. I have no idea why I didn't think of that. I'm most concerned about changing the hand of the fabric. Thx!!
