Blame (or thank) this thread on CynSew. She posted a link to her video on ripping out serger seams. Turns out she has more videos including this one:
Sewing Feet Great Tip!!

I asked Chris, Pickup Some Creativity if I could share her blog with all of you, February 2011 Sewing 101 with Karen, organizing your sewing area Are you excited for a new Sewing 101 post? I know I am! Welcome February's guest, Karen!
Lucky for us, she agreed. The fist page you come to is packed with sewing room organization ideas. And it's only a teaser for all the great information she has on her site. Thanks, Chris.

I went to The Container Store last week vowing, 'No more plastic.' You could guess, that didn't last. They had a mountain of plastic sweater bins deeply discounted in the back corner of the store. They had no lids. No matter, they were 1/4 the cost of the open bins I was trying to decide on for my shelves.

Yes, I bought the bargain containers and used the savings to splurge on these:
Bisley Cabinet Drawer Inserts
At long last, I'm satisfied with a solution for sorting and storing machine accessories.

Thought I would be sorting all of my needles in the drawer inserts too, then I saw the idea for using a simple cd wallet.

Looking forward to seeing your great ideas or hearing about anything that you have seen or found to help with the Stuff.

Karen's sewing room is gorgeous, and Tool Time Tuesday is on my list to stop by frequently. She has a way of looking at things I never give a 2nd thought to using, and comes up with a way to make some things I normally toss in the trash look good.

Another sewing room organization site I like is the Domestic Diva -

The golf ball "things" to keep the thread/bobbin together is also a great idea.

If you set up an ironing board next to your sewing machine, be sure you have a large enough breaker so that your SM will still operate correctly (computerized machines). I recently read a post -- can't remember where, PR maybe -- where the SM was not working properly and it was traced back to the iron (larger wattage model).

What a great idea for post! I so need more organization skills in the sewing area. That pillbox idea is great for bobbins! My girls will snatch one up in a hurry & roll it all over the place! Silly kitties...; ) ....... I use snapware container's for buttons... each level has it's own color, whites, darks, multi color buttons.

Now what is everyone doing to organize patterns? I have magazine bins now labeled... household, men's , women's, gifts. But somehow they look a bit messy to me.

This is a great idea..........Thank you a7yrstitch....

Oh no, found another site. I was checking on the great, Bias Basics, on this site and had to look at the pictures here:

sewing.org, My Craft and Sewing Room

Be sure to scroll down a little to be able to scroll through all of the pictures.

Did anyone happen to see Auntie Ame's note that she uses vinyl tiles from the home improvement store for mini tile bolts?

I suppose there would be a way to figure out which ones would be safe for long term fabric storage. Looks like a great idea.
