Trying to mimic Patagonia-type fabric

I'm interested in trying out knits in a maxi-dress (probably the Mission Maxi). I'm concerned about the wear-ability of the finished product though if it shows off all the lumps and bumps underneath. What I'd really like to use is the type of knit fabric you find in Patagonia-type skirts and dresses: cotton that is relatively thick, has a smooth surface and is matte (or at least, not shiny). Does anyone know what I'm talking about? I've read about the various weaves and components, but I still am not sure what you would call that. Interlock? Jersey?

My local fabric stores (JoAnnes and a small store) have some knits but not a very good selection, so I probably have to go online. I'm open to any suggestions for similar-sounding fabrics.

I looked online and this is the closest example I can find (Margot dress). It is mostly cotton with some spandex.

You're probably looking for interlock or a double knit (interlock is a double knit). The lighter knits tend to be jersey. Double knits look the same on either side, while jersey has tiny ribs on the outside face.

Jerseys tend to cling and double knits tend to skim (because of their weight and heft).

Ponte is a double knit of a blend of poly/rayon/lycra (or sometimes just poly/lycra) that's very popular and care free. Cotton interlock can sometimes be hard to find. Sources for knits include Fabric Mart, Gorgeous Fabrics, Emma One Sock, Sawyer Brooks, Marcy Tilton, fabric.com, Fashion Fabrics Club, and on and on.

I think Fabricmart has a couple of colors of cotton interlocks right now.
