Alrighty, wish me luck! I'm about to dive in today to attempt to make this 1st Dr. Who coat using Simplicity 2895 Men's Frock Coat as a base pattern.

My lining is in the dryer and I'm prepping my work area (I need a CLEAN space!) and about to cut out and iron out my pattern pieces. Anyone starting any new projects this weekend? Working on one in progress? Whatchoo got goin' on?

I'm finishing my muslin and cutting out some beautiful purple rayon challis for this bias cut top Simplicity 2594. This is the second piece of fabric I've purchased for this top. After adjusting the pattern, the first piece was too small. Sewing spring/summer tops is just so satisfying!!

I've just finished the Simplicity 2594. It was my second in 2 weeks. The first one was almost perfect on the first try. I made view B in medium weight cotton.

For the second, I wanted to try a polyester as a trial for a later version in silk. It was/is (finished 1 h ago) a pita. Never again will I sew cheap medium weight poly that cannot be ironed. It is so frustrating as I don't have the skill to go around the difficulty. Luckily I know the pattern works well with the right fabric, but now, I don't dare to sew it in silk as intended.
If you haven't sewn it before, just remember that the step 17 is wrong. You must follow the picture, not the instructions.
Next project, I hesitate between trying for a dress, or doing this Simplicity 2594 again either in silk or cotton (I need new clothes badly hence the hurry).
Psst : the coat is going to be fun ! I'll follow your updates !

I just started a new project today -- a self-drafted, fully lined, tailored jacket.

My jacket will be made of chocolate brown wool flannel and has shoulder princess seams, a button up notched collar with a brown faux leopard overlay, black spiral buttons, and a 2" wide contour belt made of brown ultrasuede with black faux snakeskin trim. I cut the fabric and interfacing this morning and hope to fuse it and start sewing this afternoon.

I know it's very late in the season to be sewing a cool weather jacket, but I plan to start wearing it next fall.
