I'm looking for a pattern for a dress like the one above rita hayworth wears in a dance scene from a film.
Can anyone suggest a pattern?

I think it's the same outfit she's wearing here and here.

If so, it's a two-piece costume: A blouse knotted under her bust to show off her midriff, and then a skirt fitted at the hip.

You can see the outfit in action and the dance routine from 'You Never Were Lovelier' here. She certainly had beautiful legs.

Thanks.
Its been suggested if I get a RTW 'skater dress' and 'Tie up front shirt' I could recreate the 'look' on another forum. I can't find a sewing pattern for one so RTW is my route at the moment.

This sort of thing turns up from time to time on ebay or etsy, if you search for words like "1940s pattern midriff". Here's one.

The words 1940s and midriff are key for the search.

Here's another.

If people are using the 40's term, they are listed as a playsuit or play suit. The show up regularly on ebay and some of the vintage pattern sites. If you find a cheap buy it now, spring on it. They usually go for quite a bit of $$$. Also check on Rita Hayworth pattern on ebay. You might find a pattern for that exact outfit. Hollywood patterns had dresses that were worn by the stars and sometimes you get lucky. Advance pattern company had some really nice ones.

If you haven't worked with older patterns you might want to check with the seller to be sure that they have accounted for all the pieces. It's common for the smaller ones to be missing.

I think she's a nicer dancer than ginger rogers IMO. She has a lightness and an attitude to her dance.

I found this pattern which is nearly there.

I can send you along a copy of a pattern layout for something like it if you feel inclined to draft it, although I don't have the actual pattern. I am also pretty sure one of my Lutterloh books has a play suit as well, if not one in a similar style, a skirt and blouse certainly would be.

Thanks for the offer. :)
Don't think I'm quite up to drafting my own pattern yet though. lol!
My last attempt at drafting a pattern, other than a hat pattern ended in a bit of a wonky mess.

Here's one from the vintage pattern lending library. This isn't a two piece outfit, but does look like your drawing.

Sense and Sensibility pattern.
