We're going to Hawaii for the first time in May! I cannot begin to describe how excited I am :D

Are there any must-hit fabric shops in Honolulu? I'm excited at the possibility of bringing home some fun fabric from our trip :)

Fabric Mart, Honolulu store

Don't miss this one. It's in downtown Honolulu, near the convention center. Lots of Polynesian themed fabrics AND much more.

See all the rolls of fabric in the photo? That's only one aisle in the store, plus there are more fabrics upstairs.

ETA: That link is not working on my computer & I'll try to fix it. Here's a link to the main website. Check the Store Locations drop-down menu for the Honolulu store & other locations on Oahu:

Also, Honolulu has a wonderful public bus system (The Bus); there's a stop on the B line within a block of Fabric Mart Honolulu. There are some free tourist shuttles that run from the hotels to various shopping destinations (Hilo Hattie's, the Big Huge Shopping Mall Whose Name I Have Forgotten, etc.) which may or may not take you close to Fabric Mart.

I went to Honolulu a couple of months ago and posted the same question before I left! Since we didn't have a rental car, I didn't have the opportunity to explore as much as I'd have liked. I did see one sign for a fabric store, but it was in a rather dicey area..... Unfortunately, I didn't come home with any cool new fabrics....sigh.....

Yes, the Fabric Mart is a MUST-SEE. The one downtown Honolulu is quite fun but there is another one in Aiea ... 98-023 Hekaha St., Harbor Center Bldg. #1-1, Aiea, HI 96701, (808) 488-8882 ... that it FANTASTIC! It's a little hard to find because it's tucked into an industrial looking little mall but well worth the effort to find. I went back 3 times ...... when I was there they had some very nice leftover yardage from RTW Aloha shirt makers. Plus there are some other very interesting places to shop nearby. Have a super time, you lucky ducky.

I live in Oahu, and as everybody said Fabric Mart is the one if you're looking for aloha prints fabrics. They are about $3.99-4.99/yd. I go to the one in Aiea since it's closer to me, but prepare to spend some time there... There are SO MUCH of them! Walmart has some aloha fabrics too. There's another one called Kaimuki Dry Goods, a little off town, but they sell more other fabrics like quilting cotton, knits and such they are probably much cheaper in mainland. Other than aloha prints fabrics, I buy fabrics online.

Fabric Mart is great - I got lost in all the fabrics. I picked up an awesome Japanese cotton (navy with white bunnies, a popular motif) there. They also have coconut shell buttons for extremely cheap - much better to get them here than pay $1/each elsewhere.

Hawaiian Fabric on Martha St. is good too, a smaller selection but the proprietor is very nice.

I just went to Walmart and they actually had a nice silk blend Aloha fabrics for $5/yd. I'm not sure if Fabric Mart carries them (I'm sure they do, I just never looked for them). I'm planning to make a matching aloha shirt for my husband and son with this fabric. My husband was actually the one asking me to make it. I guess he trusts my sewing enough. :p
