I know this is a very vague question, but Onion patterns are expensive, so doing some research before I order. Can anyone comment on the fit and flatterability? There are a few knit dresses that look very promising:

I love Onion patterns because of their good drafting and simple styling. The fit is casual, not overly fitted for the most part. Sleeves on jackets tend to be nicely shaped but with a flatter sleeve cap than a tailored jacket, for example. The patterns are simple to sew and the pieces fit together well. I have found the garments to be surprisingly flattering considering how almost boring the pattern piece shapes look sometimes.

The drawings are accurate but don't show the magic of the patterns like the sample garments. Here is the grey dress in your post, looks kind of dumpy in the drawing here but if the style suits you and your fabric is right then you should get a piece of awsomeness like the garment photo. That has been my experience anyway.

Here is my review of a jacket/cardigan pattern that I have made over and over and have worn each piece practically to death.

Thanks, Sewliz. That is very helpful, Onion sounds like my cup of tea, I love clothes that appear very simple and aren't overly fitted, but not overly fitted in the right kind of way, if you know what I mean. I also like intelligent patterns, where they dovetail with the style. That is why I am attracted to them. I am going to place an order later today.

I have several Onion patterns and I really like them. The patterns are simple but still trendy and the fit is casual and comfortable. I totally agree with Sewliz that if you choose the correct fabric your garment will have the scandinavian cool factor of the photographed examples. Their customer service is also good.

Other points which might interest you: the patterns do not include seam allowances, some of them have the pieces printed on top of each other (you need to trace them) and the directions do not include diagrams. The patterns are in Danish and you receive an e-mail with the translated instructions in PDF format after you have purchased it.

The only thing about them which I would change is the pattern pocket - the contents tend to fall out after you have removed the plastic wrapping.

Hope that is helpful.
