Date: 3/14/12 11:33 PM Has anyone tried the surfshelf? It is a plastic shelf that you strap to your treadmill, elliptical, bike, etc. so that you can use your computer while exercising.
I am interested if anyone has experience with this item.
Thanks. |

Date: 3/15/12 6:49 PM Sounds like a bad idea to me. It's common knowledge that distracting yourself by reading or doing other things during a workout makes the workout far less effective. Something to do with the signals that your brain is sending your muscles, or something. And personally, if I was able to use a laptop while exercising then I certainly wouldn't be trying very hard on the exercise front. Might as well not bother doing it at all! |

Date: 3/15/12 8:13 PM I haven't heard of the "surfshelf," but if you do a search for "treadmill desk," you'll get a ton of hits. It's becoming pretty popular among authors I know (not sweeping the nation, but I do know a handful of folks who do this!). It's not for hardcore workouts; the idea is more to walk while you work, not to surf while you work out, if that makes sense. ------ ~Gem in the prairie |

Date: 3/15/12 9:35 PM Yes, I bought one for my husband for Christmas. He really likes it...he actually stays on the treadmill longer than ever. He says having his computer there takes his mind off of the time. It attaches securely to your treadmill and is clear so you can still see your treadmill display. I personally had a hard time reading and walking/running at the same time. Guess I can't walk and chew gum at the same time ------ Kathy7661 |
