...and a lot of them have lined bodices. What can I use other than the really icky sticky poly or acetate lining stuff, but not as nice as silk charmeuse, something that won't be thick or hot or mess up the lines of my dresses, but will do what a lining does? Is there something like a poplin that is thinner than that?

Maybe cotton organza (not organdy) or maybe cotton voile or batiste or lawn?

Organza will give a little extra body, but is fairly sheer.

Are you looking for body or for opaque-ness? Or just covering the inner seams, etc?

Good, where do you find your cotton organza? I've never seen it sold by the yard.

I mostly use cotton batiste (Vogue Fabrics online has a good).

For less fancy/heirloom projects, I use Knoppa sheets from Ikea. $1.99, cotton-poly blend, sheer and lightweight.

I love using quilting solids, like the Country Classics at Jo-Ann's. They are inexpensive and come in a wide variety of colors.
