You know, I may have gotten laid off three weeks ago, but I got SO BUSY!

I started working on my own software projects, getting things organized around the house, that I haven't had a chance to come to PR! I've put my sewing projects to the side, but I may pick up a tunic I want to do now that I can take my time with it.

So. *waves!*

'sup?

I figured you might call or show up soon. You know.. I have been out in the yard 24/7 all week.. Will probably be out for at least another week. Between the drought.. and my DH and his weedwacker my gardens are needing weeding and restoring. And you know as you live here how little time we have to work outside before the heat hits.
After that we will have to plan a shopping day.

I am also more busy now then I ever was when I worked. I think that is because we start all those projects we never had time for when we were employed.

AND.. I am trying to SNEEK this bit of news in .. I have decided to repaint my sewing room.. I just finished repainting my breakfast nook. and guess I am in the mood to paint. I have never been happy with the beige.. although it was okay. it never made me smile .. it is just beige.. what more can you say about beige.. So. I am on my way to the lumberyard this morning for the paint. It may be a few days before I actually do the painting.. but I want the paint here in case I get a paint mojo feeling coming on .
That job should take several days.. as there is a lot of furniture in there. and fabric.. so most will have to be out from the walls etc. and .. as an added bonus to myself.. I am also painting my mahoghany furniture. So an all new look for sure.
I hope no one else reads this.. lets just keep this bit of news to ourselves..

Painting mahogany furniture? As in, dark stained beautiful mahogany furniture? Isn't that sacriligeous?

Now that we are past that, tell me how to do this. My bedroom furniture is 30 years old, 18th century pediment style, low 4 poster that I am sick to death of. I want something very light and pretty. Would love the sleeker modern styles. But, budget just is not there and may not be for a long while.

So, can I paint this stuff? Why have I always felt the furniture police would come and get me if I did anything except polish this stuff? Speaking of beige, I picked up some tri-color beige drapes for the bedroom; light to dark going down. Maybe if some of the furniture pieces are painted different colors I can mix things up a bit? No, drapes are going back, they just won't go with the light breezy feeling I want.

You know, when I got laid off this last time I was stunned at how I never had time to do anything I wanted to do - like sew.

DH retired last year and he wants to go back to work so he can rest.

I hope the job quest goes well.

I know how he feels.

We used to say this a lot during vacations when we were working.

Now that we are retired, we have lots to do and no schedule to keep.

Karen.. I AM betting if you just painted the bed.. and maybe a smaller accent piece such as a chair etc.. you could leave the rest the mahoghany.. much much much less work.. I also think as long as you are at it.. pick a HAPPY wall color..
Then your lighter drapes..
What look exactly are you trying to achieve.. cottage or traditional.. or such like that ? Your furniture screams traditional. but you could tone that down by choosing the right drapes and bed coverings.. and painting that bed.

My sewing room has traditional mahogany desks.. three of them to be exact.. as well as wall cabinets, and a credenza all mahogany. . And all old and from the thrift store.. so I don't have a lot of money tied up in those pieces.. I am even thinking two tones here.. maybe the desks one color.. the wall cabinets another. One thing I don't like about it now is some of my cabinets are beigey.. too close a color to the walls.. just too much beige..

Karen. was thinking about this.. and its really hard to make modern from traditional furniture.. but just for kicks.. go look at MAINE Cottage furniture. See what you think of those.. they are painted.. albeit not the same type that I do. but very modern and fresh looking..
Will check back with you tomorrow on this.

So Miss Poorpigling, what's the color scheme? When I purchased the house we weren't able to move in right away so I spent a couple of weekends painting my bedroom and my office/craft room. I think it took about 4 10 hour days. And the beau didn't want to paint his rooms, so.. those are still "house flipper beige."

The amusing thing about painting my office/craft room, it is called "Chipotle Red." It looks like a bucket of blood. And... I painted it on Halloween! I got paint on my hand and it didn't look... pleasant.

I need to give you a call sometime this week.
