Hello, Can anyone offer advice on making a lace overlay. How do I cut the lace? Do I cut it like anyother fabric, smaller seam allowance or should I carefully cut around the lace design and then hand sew the front to back to make it look like there was so cut?

Thanks for any help with this. The lace is an expensive solstiss lace and I can't afford to buy it again if I should ruin it accidently.

Are you talking about the overlay for a bodice of some sort, like a v-neck t-shirt or wedding dress? In that case, you place the lace on the fabric, before the neckline is cut, wrong side of lace to right side of fabric, then stitch a small stitch around the outside edges of the lace. Then trim the fabric up to the lace edges. It's much like applique, but you remove the back (which is the fabric)
