i'm trying to put a dart on a sequins tank top. it kind of gaps in the bust line (i'm well endowed ). so how can i free hand this without a pattern. also is there some other way to do this. thanks Melinda

A gapping bust, means that the garment bust is too small. I don't think darts are going to fix it. There isn't enough fabric to go around.

Is this a knit fabric? Is your underarm seam high enough?

If you want to free hand it, you just pin out the dart. But if you're doing this to an already assembled top, the dart will show. And you need to have enough room to pull it on your body if you put the dart in. That's why I was asking if it was a knit fabric.


Gaping in the bustline sometimes means you need to do an FBA. But sometimes you can rotate that dart fullness to the neckline, provided that the top is stretchy enough to put on. It will drop your neckline a little, making it even fuller. I've done this before, so that's how I know.
