Hi! And thanks for reading / responding.

I am in the 2nd trimester of baby #5. (Crazy me, I know.) I'd like to alter a few patterns I own so I can wear them through the summer. My understanding to adjust for pregnant belly and bust is to splice & spread the pattern at Center Front, and just beside it to add width, as well as add a bit more length. Would you say I am correct in this assessment?

The patterns I want to alter are McCalls M5050 & Simplicity 3745. Thanks!

Congrats on your newest addition! I myself am 22 weeks pregnant with #3 and am trying to avoid buying new maternity wear.

I'd say you're correct in your thinking about alterations. Here's a good blog post with diagrams of the alterations.

Also, have you checked out Megan Nielsen's maternity patterns?? I just finished the Ruched top & Wrap top & I highly recommend them! I don't have pictures up on my blog yet, but I'll post them here.(I also made this skirt using a non-maternity RTW skirt that I had)

Also, I'd recommend Vogue 8581 and also McCalls 6034I did Vogue 8581 without any alterations & Mccalls 6034 is currently on my sewing table. I simply added 4" to the length & will probably ruch the sides using elastic thread in the bobbin. :)

If you check out my blog (link in siggy) my most recent posts are all about maternity sewing
