Date: 4/4/12 10:31 PM Hi all
Does anyone know of some inexpensive sources for modest amounts ( buying a bolt is not an option) of silk organza? I caved and signed up for King's Jenius class at Craftsy and that's the one item I don't have on the materials list.
I did see one source that was as low as 4.50 yd., but I'm leery of ordering from China, would prefer in places in the states.
Thanks

Date: 4/4/12 11:34 PM Dharma trading has it. I was going to order from them until I found some at a local shop that sells bridal fabrics. If you have something similar nearby, they may have it. ------ Marilyn

Date: 4/5/12 4:44 AM If you're anywhere near Portland, do look at Mill End Store and/or Fabric Depot. They have a good selection; Fabric Depot has a sale at least once a month, and you can use other store coupons at Mill End Store. |

Date: 4/5/12 9:55 AM Third vote for Dharma trading. I love the 55" silk organza; bought it for the first time for Susan Khalje's couture dress course on Craftsy. And the price is phenomenal - I couldn't find anything close to it from a bricks and mortar store and there are several near me. Dharma's website is easy to use and their shipping is reasonable and super fast. |

Date: 4/5/12 10:01 AM I bought 10 yds of ivory and black organza from Thai silks on sale eons ago. Just as an encouragement, I have been so happy to have some on hand since it is useful for all kinds of things. It is my all time favorite pressing cloth -- takes the heat and you can see through it. ------ Patti

1 member likes this. Date: 4/5/12 10:27 AM I got mine off of ebay. It was the least expensive I found when I included shipping. |

Date: 4/5/12 1:37 PM I'd forgot silk could be used as a press cloth, might tack on 1 yd. just for that. Dharma does look the most promising and they take paypal too.
Only one higher end fabric place locally and it was more than Dharma even with the ship added ( which was really not much at all).
Thanks for the tips. ; )

Date: 4/9/12 8:49 AM Or if you are in Hong Kong wander around the amazing little shops in the Sham Shui Po district, buttons, threads, fabric (wholesalers) etc... I was there couple of weeks ago and found a store that ordered silk organza in from China for me-- took 2 days to arrive. Cost A$5 per metre (115cm wide). They gave me colour card (30+ colours) and email info as they said will post to me in Australia if I want more. But a great excuse to go back....!! ------ Sar sews |
