Date: 4/5/12 1:23 AM I couldn't resist a remnant at the local fabric store. I could imagine it as a dress but I only have 1.4 m of 150cm wide fabric. Is it possible or should I try a different garment. I was hoping a slimline dress with some capacity to hide a round tummy. |

Date: 4/5/12 3:33 AM Both Vogue 1250 and 8724 use less than 1.4m to about a size 16 or so.

Date: 4/5/12 3:45 AM Thanks Red Dragon I will chase that up. ETA The first one looks like a real possibility.
Thanks again,

If there's a style I love but don't have enough fabric I change it to a shorter sleeve, cap sleeve or no sleeve depending on how short I am on fabric. Sometime I do the same with hem lengths. If there's facings you can do a bias binding instead. Seems like there's lots of options. |

Date: 4/5/12 4:05 PM Color blocking is back and real big right now. You could always also combine it with some other fabric. As use it, in a panel down the middle of a dress or such. Especially if you have a dark solid on the outer 2 side panels of it. The dark up and down paneling on the sides, make that part of your body sort of recede, and gives the illusion of less width. A busy print in the middle gets the attention, and maybe hides some stuff too. Some sewing patterns I have seen that would be good for that and pretty much line up with the top designer ready wear for that kind of thing, might be:

1.4 meter is not very long though, and unless you were a short person or wanted kind of a short dress, you still might have to piece it, or have some kind of a waistline seam in even the center paneling.

Date: 4/5/12 6:59 PM It is a knit and I will definitely have a fiddle with different layouts etc. The patterns I have require more than the 1.4 metres and I was curious to see if a dress was a possibility. |

Date: 4/5/12 7:01 PM Thanks beauturbo. I will look at those patterns. I am short. I think the print would look good on something longer if it can be done. |
