I have a project for fixing two pairs of men's tailored pants and I don't have a clue how to measure accurately.

Any advice or guidance appreciated.

Crotch to top of instep, slightly tapering down to 1/2" above the heel.

Um, with a light and delicate hand?

There are tape measures with a kind of handle or gripper on one end; you ask the client to position this handle where he would like the crotch seam to ride, and you note, on the other end, where the hemline should be.

When asked to alter pant legs, I always ask the client to bring in a pair that fit them. I then measure from the crotch to the end of the cuff. That is the inseam measurement. I then undo the cuff, measure the hem turn-up and make the same measurement on the new pair of pants. The client always are pleased with the results.
