I just got an e-mail from McCalls that they are offering sewing "kits". The Basic $19.95, The Deluxe $29.95 & The Ultimate $49.95.
The prices seem good for everything that is included. I was wanting the Ultimate but DH says gosh that amount for sewing kit.... So now after trying to show him more detail I am thinking the Deluxe maybe more in our price range.
I wondered what others thought of this. Seems like a good move on McCalls part to get things together sewers need at a good price.

Now you know after buy this kit my seam ripper & tape measure will show up again & my friend will return my extra set of straight pins......

Just checked out the kits on mccall's site. Not bad prices IF you need everything in the kit.

The kits wouldnt be worth it to me. At this point, the only item in any of the kits that I dont have is the wonder clips. Funny, the past few weeks I have been looking at those. Will be ordering them online soon I suspect. But...instead of the 10 clip pack that they are offering, I am looking at buying the 50 clip pack for around $25

Fashion Starter Kits

Says the prices are 40% off, which is probably 40% off the MSRP, which may be a good deal. I haven't compared the prices of the individual components, or prices available for other vendors.

I have not seen the clips in the store, what are they used for? Does the average sewer need that many or use that many?
Thank you for the information!

From their site, they say that they're an alternative to pins.

To be honest, this is the first I'd ever heard of them. I either use the old-fashioned pins or the new-fangled pattern weights (ahem, hardware store washers).

I came across an online ad for those clips a few weeks ago, have not seen them in person yet. They are used instead of pins. The reason I was looking at them is because right now I am sewing cloth diaper covers with PUL fabric. Its best not to use pins on those because it causes little leaks in the diaper. Thought the clips would work great for this project. Not sure that I would really need 50 of them, but would probably use more than 10 when clipping together a diaper.

I saw the clips being used in one of my serger books. I guess it's to prevent accidentally serging the pins, which will damage the sergerbadly.

binding clips firmly hold the fabric together with no danger of the layers sliding apart. Yes, I could use more pins, and cross them, but, sometimes, this is easier. Very useful when dealing with heavy, slippery fabrics. However, you can't really sew close to them--basting has its advantages.

Actually, they are most useful in cutting-- a 60" wide piece of yardage stays folded, and on grain.

I recently purchased a few sets of the Wonder Clips and they are AMAZING! I was top-stitching a very long piece in a diagonal diamond pattern and the clips worked wonders in rollinig the ends up to fit in the harp...they'll be great for quilting.

If you have a JoAnns near you and use coupons I think it would be cheaper.
