Date: 4/16/12 7:08 PM Hi everyone! I am in need of a new sewing machine and serger but have decided that since I have been really into stretch fabrics lately, I am going to go for the serger first. I would like to have one that will last me a while but not extremely expensive. I would love to hear your suggestions!

Date: 4/16/12 8:14 PM I was looking at one of the base model berninas (the 700d) but am gravitating towards the Jukis now. (doesnt juki make bernina?) I am looking at the Juki MO655DE and the MO735. any thoughts?

Date: 4/16/12 8:21 PM I adore both my Juki made sergers. I have a Juki 654 and a Bernina 1300(like Juki 735). The Juki 655 you are interested in does a 5 thread safety stitch, it is a very nice serger. If you think you might need coverstitch later, the Juki 735 is very nice. |

 2 members like this. You might want to look at Babylock before you decide. I don't know of anyone who doesn't love theirs. Take your fabrics and try them out, just like a machine. Some are harder than others to thread, some are 3/4 thread, some 4 thread. I find a 4 thread is better at knits and swimwear for stability. ------

Date: 4/16/12 8:29 PM I think any serger that you can disengage the knives can do a coverstitch. Am I wrong, anyone? My babylock and Singer are really easy to lift the knives up and out of the way for. But, not knocking the Juki. A lot of people love those too. A lot of schools have Babylocks, because they can go for hours and hours without maintenance. ------

Date: 4/16/12 8:32 PM Yes, The 735 has five threads so in includes the chain stitch. I love my Juki, It is easy to thread, solidly built, smooth, quiet, powerful, fast, great cutter, lots of extras. ------

1 member likes this. I do not own one but got to use one at the martha pullen market in orlando this past winter,...(it was already threaded),..fell in love !...it's that babylock that threads its self!!...on my wish list! ...although alittle pricey ------
