How to do I find an unmarked bustpoint in a knit pattern? I have wings, wings!

I suspected it would be too big if I went with my standard 22W size (which works well in KA patterns with decent ease for me--with wovens) but happily went on. The back neckline gapes. The front neckline gapes. The shoulders are too wide. And I have giant wings at my armpits. I think I need to suck it up and learn a FBA, but the pattern doesn't have the bustpoint marked. So I don't know how to do it. (I plan on easing the bust into the side seams as gathers or something since a dart on a tank seems silly to me.) Any advice on finding the bust point when it's not marked? Alternatively, if anyone knows of a tank top pattern for a knit with a bustpoint marked, please let me know. Date: 4/16/12 9:56 PM I usually use my own bust point for adjustments, holding the tissue to my body, and matching CF and waistline. Then, when truing things up after doing the adjustment, I hold the tissue up again and remark my bust point in case I have moved it in the process. The important thing in the end is to make sure any darts are pointing toward your bust point, and that the added or subtracted width and length are where you need them for your body. ------ marjoriekh

I just posted a question about patterns no longer including bust point markings. If you are larger than a B cup, it is worth learning how to do a fba. Unless indicated on the pattern, they are designed for B cups. FBA changed my fitting in the neckline and shoulders. It is easier to do a fba than to downsize neck and shoulders.

Remember, you can always move the bust point after you do the adjustment.

If you are a D cup or less, you might try that. I'm a DD, and I wear off the rack knit tanks sized (presumably) for a B cup without any trouble.

They are showing you how much needs to be taken up in the dart. Put your tank on and mark where your apex is because most knits stretch lengthwise and crosswise. Using the tissue won't work. If you have a full bust, you will almost always need to use a FBA. The dart can then be rotated out.
