A male friend of ours was over at our house and he wandered into my sewing room to say hi to me. He saw my serger sitting on the sewing table and asked what it was and how it worked. I showed him and asked why he wanted to know. His wife doesnt sew, and his extent of sewing is knowing how to use a basic machine to mend clothing.

Seems he was at a garage sale last weekend. There was a brand new serger in a sealed box, (Brother brand, model unknown) The woman running the sale explained that before her hubby passed away he bought that machine for her because he wanted her to take up sewing. She said that she "won" because she never even opened the box.

The real kicker is that she was asking $10 for it. My friend passed it by because he wasnt sure what it was or what it was used for. He is going to stop by her house this weekend and see if by chance it is still for sale, but somehow I cant imagine that it would still be there.

OH my. I think we all might have one of those stories....there was the day I could have had that Singer 127 for hauling it to my car at the end of a yard sale I visited....;) It probably worked. I didn't and sometimes think I really should have. And there are more like that. Sigh.

I hope you can get that serger.

"Won", eh? Since her hubby passed away, probably she really didn't win...what a sad statement. Gosh.

Anyway - good luck! You never know!

Wow!! SOMEBODY got (or is getting) a really good deal!

Last summer, my mother (who does not sew but is a GREAT garage-saler) called me early one Saturday morning, SO excited because she had found me a serger (Babylock, IIRC?) for $50, and the owner was demonstrating it for her. It took me a bit to talk her down and tell her that my DH had bought me a new Brother for my birthday a few weeks earlier! I really don't like having extra stuff like that around, but lemme tell ya, I was tempted for a minute!! But I let somebody else snap up that great buy. :)
