We all dream about what we would sew if we had some coveted attachment or piece of equipment. Or if we had stupendous sewing skills. But just for fun, if you had an assistant (willing and eager to do your bidding!) what tasks would you have him/her do? Here's what my assistant would do:
1. Go through all my pins and discard every one even slightly bent, and then make sure my pincushions stay stocked with perfectly straight pins.
2. Go through my pattern tissues, trace off the pieces I need, then perfectly refold the tissues.
3. Dust, oil and lubricate my machines and replace the needles after each project so they are fresh and ready to go at all times.
4. Inventory my supplies so I know exactly what notions, zippers, elastics, bindings, threads, fasteners, etc. I have in my stash and dutifully update the list after each project. ------ Margaret (Singer 201-2), Betty (Singer 15-91), Bud (Singer 503), Kathy (Singer 221), Liz (Singer 221 Centennial Edition)

I'm too much of a perfectionist to have someone help me sew, unless it's my kids since I want to be nice about that. |

I'm with you on having an assistant trace the patterns and do the inventory. But cleaning and oiling machines is one of my favorite things. I always enjoy fiddling with mechanical stuff. (And my SM is old enough to be mechanical!)
Would it be cheating if I had the assistant clean the rest of the house, cook dinner and do laundry so I had more time to sew?

Date: 4/21/12 10:02 AM No, I wouldn't let them help me sew either! Only do the tedious, menial tasks which must be done in order for ME to sew! lol ------ Margaret (Singer 201-2), Betty (Singer 15-91), Bud (Singer 503), Kathy (Singer 221), Liz (Singer 221 Centennial Edition)

I would also like him/her to cook. I hate interrupting sewing to do such a mundane thing as cook for the family. Come to think of it, if I didn't have a husband or children to cook for, I would likely weigh 25 pounds less...hmm food for thought! ------ Connie Bontje

Date: 4/21/12 11:11 AM Install any & all zippers. My least fav. sewing task. Older DS is hard on zippers & seems like he always has at least one needing replaced on a coat or light jacket.
I don't mind cooking. Leftovers or a pot of homemade soup is easy & we enjoy it. But help with housework would be wonderful! |
