If you had a sewing assistant... what would he/she do?

Date: 4/21/12 9:38 AM We all dream about what we would sew if we had some coveted attachment or piece of equipment. Or if we had stupendous sewing skills. But just for fun, if you had an assistant (willing and eager to do your bidding!) what tasks would you have him/her do? Here's what my assistant would do: 1. Go through all my pins and discard every one even slightly bent, and then make sure my pincushions stay stocked with perfectly straight pins. 2. Go through my pattern tissues, trace off the pieces I need, then perfectly refold the tissues. 3. Dust, oil and lubricate my machines and replace the needles after each project so they are fresh and ready to go at all times. 4. Then tell them there is no crying in sewing, and fire them only to rehire them the next day. I'm too much of a perfectionist to have someone help me sew, unless it's my kids since I want to be nice about that.

Date: 4/21/12 10:01 AM Lisalu, I'm with you on having an assistant trace the patterns and do the inventory. But cleaning and oiling machines is one of my favorite things. I always enjoy fiddling with mechanical stuff. (And my SM is old enough to be mechanical!) Would it be cheating if I had the assistant clean the rest of the house, cook dinner and do laundry so I had more time to sew? Sis

January 2011 to the present: 47 yards out and 69 yards in.

Date: 4/21/12 10:23 AM Pick up all the cut threads and scraps, fold the patterns neatly and put them away, take very accurate body measurements, do all the hemming and sewing on of buttons, trim seams, and rip seams if needed. That ought to do it.

I would also like him/her to cook. I hate interrupting sewing to do such a mundane thing as cook for the family. Older DS is hard on zippers & seems like he always has at least one needing replaced on a coat or light jacket. I don't mind cooking. Leftovers or a pot of homemade soup is easy & we enjoy it. But help with housework would be wonderful!
