Came across this $3,830.00 Jill Sander silk dress this morning. I think you can see the details here at the jilsander website:

Here's a quicker view, hosted here at PR:click here

Lots of beading around the round circles of silk; also beads and a sequin on each one.

Very interesting and a good idea. I have a silk blouse which the tailor/embroiderer made too small. When I took it home and opened up the seams, the needle holes were evident. I can take and embellish the problem areas with sequins/beads!

I think it initially caught my eye due to looking a bit like the line drawing on the back of the pattern envelope....

They call it embroidery, but I'm not actually seeing any real embroidery. Just those fabric circles (I thought they looked a bit like felt but I guess at that price they might be hand cut silk), then with the sequin, and the seed bead on top to hold all on. Looks like it was on a loose matching fabric band first, then possibly stitched to the dress more applied afterwards perhaps? It would really bring attention to your bust darts I think!

Also I think when you swung your arms back and forth to walk in a sleeveless dress like that, they would maybe sort of catch and rub against the beading on the bust darts maybe?

I like the visual up and down part on the princess seaming.

Neat idea but for that sort of money I would expect the hem to be level and the beading to be even (the vertical RHS line of beading looks higher than the LHS).

Edit - I have just had a close up look at the detailing and it doesn't look that nice. I think I would like something that was more subtle.

CRUST, I'm with you.

Astonishingly, though, this month it was announced that Simons would replace John Galliano as creative director at Dior!

Simons may be less of a jerk than Galliano, but he's not half the designer.

What floors me is that Raf was a fantastic designer, then somewhere in the late 2000s he just lost the plot. Whatever happened to his ninjas from the early 2000s?

That was some of the best menswear, or anywear, that I've seen and still has a huge impact on my personal work. But these days it's all snakeskin prints and American Apparel colorways.
