I'm considering sewing a kids pajama pattern
http://sewing.patternreview.com/patterns/5193
the fabric amounts call for 9 of 28" ribbing. I've seen ribbed knit fabric, but it is on a regular bolt, not a 28" bolt. Is that the same thing?

I've bought ribbing in different widths & some were quite narrow & tube style. Others are wider, open like reg. fabric. Just depends on how it was made. It's one item I don't wash before using.

ETA: Be careful not to mix up ribbed fashion fabric with actual ribbing. Sometimes you need to look carefully to decide which it is.

How do I tell the difference between ribbing and ribbed fashion fabric?

To be honest, it can take a little practice. Take a good look at clothes bought with ribbing used on them. Notice how the ribbing looks in relation to the fabric used. Or just pop into a store & look at what they are selling. A thrift store is great for noticing how ribbing is when washed a # of times. True ribbing has a good amt. of stretch; more than reg. knit fabrics. All cotton ribbing doesn't feel, stretch, or wear like a good blended ribbing though.

I have substituted the rib knit cotton/lycra blend at Joanns for ribbing with great results. They often have pieces in the remnant bin, and I pick them up to have on hand.

My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since.
