Date: 4/26/12 1:01 PM I am very blessed at my age to still have my mom around, and recently made her some skirts and the Sorbetto top.
Yesterday she arrived at my home for a fitting - good job on her skirts, but -- While she loves her Sorbetto blouse, she wants me to take 1" IN at the armholes - but add 2" to each side... *yikes*
My first thought was to add the cute "pleat" front look to both sides, but that will make the armholes HUGE :-( I don't draft patterns... A triangle shape will that work better?
how to add 4 total inches to the sides of this blouse AND take in armholes?? I'm puzzled, thank you for any ideas you can fly my way ------ I have great enthusium for sewing, but lack talent to be great.

Subject: Take in Blouse underarms 1, add 2 to each side? Date: 4/26/12 2:43 PM Could you make the armholes smaller by taking a horizontal fold across the pattern at mid armhole?
Or, maybe you just need a smaller size with a FBA and a taper out to a larger size as you reach the hem area.
Wish I was better at this! |

Date: 4/27/12 5:36 AM Thanks, it's a puzzle to me
fits good in the neckline, and the bust actually isn't too bad (except got to move darts down a bit), but them she gets rather large.
Seems odd to take 1" out of armholes, then get the blouse to grow 2" on each side? lol
Thanks for trying! I'm rather fond of puzzle but this one has me stumped lol

You may have to add more shaping on the edges of your wedge to suit her shape. Can you open the side seams from the bottom of the top to see how much they spread?
I hope one of the fitting gurus chimes in! |

I agree that you should open up the side seams for a fitting to see how much more fabric you need. You will see where the blouse wants to fall.
Pin the underarms to where she needs it. I suggest you spread the additional width needed by adding a bit at the side and slash/spread the pattern in another to get additional space. Sherril Miller has a nice drawing of this but I cannot find it. (i'll keep looking) You want the top to hang nicely and I think adding a little at a couple of places will do that. |

Date: 4/27/12 11:48 AM Thanks so much! I'll google today the slash/spread method and see that! Sounds like just what I need. ------ I have great enthusium for sewing, but lack talent to be great.
