Photo's of fabric stash.... am I the only one?

Date: 4/27/12 4:24 AM Just wondering am I a bit odd....I regularly take photo's of my fabric stash on my phone. Then when I go to fabric shop I can check what I've already got so I don't buy something I don't need. ------ 'The purpose of most fashion is to be ostentatiously non-functional.'

It's very smart to do. I have a mental picture of my stash and that is enough to keep me out of the fabric stores for a while! LOL

I announced that I was going to do this on my blog... and then never did! I'm a little better about grabbing pix when I first bring fabric in the door, if I want to share it. Date: 4/27/12 6:32 PM I have a ziploc bag of swatches stuck to post-it notes that have the fiber content, width, length, where I bought it, what I paid for it, and a note of whether I had it earmarked for anything yet. I inventoried my fabric a few years ago so that I would really know what I have. I try to take the bag with me whenever I go to a fabric store. I use the swatches to buy lining, trims, buttons, check on whether a pattern will work for a fabric I have in mind, etc. But mostly I take it as a reminder that I have plenty of fabric already, however beautiful the one I see in the store may seem. I'm trying not to buy any fabric, since I have so much to use up first, but every once in a while I will see something that works well with one I have or that fills a niche I just can't manage with the stash I have. ------ Fictionfan

I also have a photo catalogue of my zippers on my computer, which I have organized by length, type of coil, tape colour, etc. So every time I need a zip I can find it within minutes. I love this idea but I'm always using lengths where I have juuuuust enough and I just know that that swatch I cut off would be the last inch or so I needed. I have however started a catalogue in a notebook. I have a woven, and knit section, within those are pages for different widths (can't remember what I broke them down into off the top of my head), the headings are something like: colours, print/solid, weave, content, length. It was right after I had bought up a lot from the Joanns liquidation. I actually took them to send to Poorpigling, for bragging purposes only

Where would I store the photos? I have over 1,000 yds of interfacing, 700 zippers, 1,500 yds of wovens and maybe 300 yds of knits. Imagine the notions that accompany that stash! When I shop for fabric it is with a specific project in mind, but most of my shopping is done in my sewing room! Anyone want to come over and browse?
