Lining Cotton What do I need to look for in lining?

I picked two Butterick patterns up at Joann's sale today, B5602 and B5719. I hope I can make them work on my body type. Though, I guess I didn't look close enough to pattern because when I got home I see I should have gotten lining. Though, what do you use to line cotton that would be cool and also silky enough that the dress will lay correctly and not ride up. I am waiting for you ladies expert advise since I am just clueless.

When I made B5602 last year, I stated in my review that I took out the lining because it was disastrous after working with it in construction. I you don't mind me asking, what happened and what type of lining did you use? Also where did you get your Bemberg rayon?

Then, I had to trim and resew...but it hung off grain, and was very electric (I live in a dry climate). It stuck to everything...me, the dress, my legs. It climbed up my legs when wearing. I removed it and fixed the dress. It really is fine without a lining. I had used $3/yd poly from JA. Recently I bought the bemberg from JA. If you line with rayon, you can no longer wash the dress, and I really prefer to wash my summer cottons. Anyway, debating this now myself as some lovely Tana lawn just followed me home from Liberty!

grey ann   Intermediate NY USA Member since 4/25/09 Posts: 81	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 4/29/12 4:53 PM You can self-line, or use a thinner cotton such as batiste or even silk organza to give a nice crisp finish. Be sure to pre-shrink first - and be aware that some cottons shrink 'progressively' so wash/dry a few times before cutting out, if you intend to wash your garment. I wouldn't use Bemberg rayon for a cotton garment, unless it is a very heavy cotton like a tapesty. Bermberg is used in a jacket - it is slippery and enables the jacket to slide on easily.
