Needles really DO make a difference a newbie error!

Because I hadn't sent my daughter's Singer in for repair yet, I decided to test the machine out(with a fresh needle) before taking it in for servicing. Much to my surprise, the machine MAGICALLY worked and has been stitching prefectly since then. I swear I changed needles before thinking it was not working properly. I guess not! After the success I had with my daughter's machine, I decided to do the same thing to my machine. Much to my surprise, it too, works after a needle change. Oh how silly I feel! At the same time, I am glad I checked because I saved myself servicing fees! So, the next time I have a machine mess up it's stitching, I will be changing out needles to make sure that isn't the problem. Boy do I feel dumb now. LOL! ------ I'm fairly new to sewing but I am finding it to be fun and rewarding!

Funny that I didn't think to check the needles sooner. I have been using a cheap Brother machine since the other machines I have weren't stitching correctly. I managed to change the needles on that machine and hadn't had an issue with the stitching. WHY I didn't think to try that with my other machines is beyond me. Oh well... lesson learned! ------ I'm fairly new to sewing but I am finding it to be fun and rewarding!

Not only do stitches look nicer - my machine smiles and thanks me for making its job easier. I also clean out and around my bobbin case, feed dogs, rods, etc., with a small brush, get rid of that lint, when I change the needle. However...I do save all those needles in a little box, I'll never find myself without a needle! coco ------ Coco

I guess not! Not to intentionally add confusion, but I have (very rarely) found brand new needle to be bad out of the box. I once had a whole pack of Schmetz needles from JA that was bad. I never knew whether Schmetz had a bad run or if some unscrupulous person swapped them out with used needles and put them back on the wall. My kids went through a couple of needles last week(newbie stuff). I went out and bought a new package just so we wouldn't run out.I think that changing the needle for a new one will be one of the first things I teach both kids. ------ I'm fairly new to sewing but I am finding it to be fun and rewarding!
