Hi everyone! I am going to make New Look 6067 and am using a very lightweight silk crepe de chine. It is a tiny bit sheer and drape-y, so I'm pretty sure I need to underline. It is a gorgeous fabric (from fabric.com; it's sold out now but other silk crepes are available).
This particular dress seems like one of those in-between ones - you don't want a huge amount of stiffness and crispness, but you need some body to the fabric to accentuate the pleats, both on top and on the skirt. I'd still like some movement to the skirt portion, though.
I've been puzzling over various ideas - please let me know what you think the right choice is:
1) Should I underline the bodice in cotton batiste or silk organza? (Organza seems too crisp, from what I've read, but I've never used it before).
2) Should I underline just the bodice, and line the skirt in bemberg? Or underline both?
3) Should I underline the bodice and skirt in the same material? Or use organza in the front bodice only (with all those sharp pleats) and a lightweight batiste everywhere else?
4) Skip underlining and line it instead?

I'm pretty sure I would not use organza for this. To crisp. I would consider batiste or china silk for both I think. I might also line it for a beautiful final presentation.

I like the china silk idea.

Thank you! I never would have thought of that, as I have only underlined cotton before. I ordered some habotai from Dharma Trading (two different weights, as I wasn't sure) and that should do it! Now I have to learn how to deal with slippery fabrics.

There is a fast way to find a group of threads to help you with your slippery fabrics.
Under Misc. Threads, check the Searching Messages, Bumping Threads thread that has been pinned near the top. It will explain the following.
In the Search Board function to the upper right, search these two words run together with no space between the words:
chiffon thread (remember, no space)

I'm with you, either cotton batiste or silk habotai for underlining and I'd line it as well.
