Hello! I'm brand new to this site as a member but I've been seeing it pop up in my Google searches frequently. :)

I need a serger but my budget is pretty low right now. I'd love to get the 1100d or the 1200d but they are way outside the budget right now. I wish I had not seen them. So for now, I'm looking for a serger that I won't outgrow the minute I take it out. Lol

What are your thoughts/experiences with the Janome 7933? Is there a better machine within the same price range? Will I outgrow this too quickly?

I'll bump this up - I haven't used this machine, but I see it has three good reviews just on Hancock's alone, and it is a Janome! That says something right there - people seem happy with the lower priced Janome sergers - read the reviews here on PR.

That said, I must say this: Have you seen the Brother 1034D?? Many of us here have it and love it - I have had mine for 6.5 years and it is as great as it ever was - I love it.There is a huge thread here on it. Worth reading!

Getting the Most out of your 1034D

I do not work for, endorse or otherwise affiliate myself with Brother or any other sibling in sewing.

Welcome to PR!

I have never seen this machine. The Janome website says that it is only available through Hancock's. We have no Hancock's in New England, so the folks who live near that store may be able to help you.

I just looked on Hancock's website and saw that the Juno 3434D is on sale for $199 right now, half the price of the 7933. The only difference that I can see is the knobs vs dials for thread tensions, and the 3434D is a bit heavier. However, it is hard to tell from the Janome website and impossible to tell from the Hancock site what the differences are beyond that.

I suggest that you look through the Janome serger reviews for the machines most similar to the one you are considering. Janome may have changed the number and color of one of the other machines for exclusive sale through that particular store, with maybe a feature or two slightly different. The reviews should give you an idea of the positive and negative aspects of the features that Janome has. Each machine with those features is likely to behave similarly.

I can tell you that the MyLock 234D that I bought 22 years ago is still going strong despite my neglect in maintaining and oiling it. It was one of the first sergers on the market with differential feed. (You do not want to do without differential feed.) I think the 204D is similar to mine, but I don't have the easy adjustment to rolled hem. I have to change the plate, so you can guess how many rolled hems I've bothered to do over the years. I also don't have stitch width adjustment aside from choosing one needle over the other. That technology did not exist when I bought mine. It seems that most sergers have stitch width adjustment these days.

Good luck in your purchase. I am sure that you will have a good machine whichever you buy. All the Janome sergers are workhorses.
