Yellow thread doesn't stitch

I bought my Juki 655 serger online because the closest dealer is 200 miles; otherwise I would be at the shop right now! I hope someone can solve this weird problem for me. I have worn out my Google trying to find info on this.

The problem is that the yellow thread does not engage with the other three. Instead of a 4 thread safety or flatlock (not sure which without looking it up), I get a 3 thread stitch with no yellow. After sewing a seam, the yellow thread goes straight down through the feed dogs. Looking inside, I see it has gone under the 3rd looper and back up. That can't be right! (This is a 5 thread machine with 3 loopers.)

The manual, DVD, and workbook are all annoyingly sketchy about threading, so a friend sent me a pictorial of how to do it. I have checked and rechecked and I am 99% sure all threads are done properly and in the right order. The red thread is over the blue and it is in the correct looper. None of the other 3 threads have caught on something they shouldn't have.

I can't reach my friend to ask her advice. Has anyone seen and solved this problem, or do you know where I could get the help I need? Could my machine be defective? I've never used a serger and hope it is some simple thing I've overlooked.

I can tell you that I had a similar issue with my Babylock serger and it was totally a stupid error on my part.
I didn't pull that errant thread out and lay it under the foot! I just had left it down inside the machinie. Once I pulled it up on top it serged perfectly.
You probably didn't do this but in the unlikely event that you did the same thing I thought I'd share.

Take a look at this threading chart. It is for the Juki 735, but aside from the different tension dials, I wonder if the rest is similar?

Edster, thanks! I called Allbrands, where I bought it. They want you to email your problem, but I've been having trouble communicating it in writing so I asked to speak with a tech. He knew the left needle was in the wrong position, set up for the 5 thread stitch. Once I moved it, problem solved! This is how it came in the box so I'm surprised more people don't have this problem.

I've become pretty adept at threading! I feel much better about buying online now, too.

In reference to Klutzy and left needle issue. I have the same problem. Have worked with it for days. I don't quite understand what you did. How did you move your needle to a different position? Your help will be greatly appreciated.

The Juki 655 has 3 needle positions.....the yellow thread track should go through a needle in the middle position. It will become the left thread in a 4 thread safety stitch. The needle on the far left is the left thread when sewing with a 5 thread set up.

The middle needle position is a little tricky to find - try tilting your machine up so that you can see the holes where the needles go. When I first got mine, I used a dental mirror to navigate to the right position, now I can just feel where they belong.
