Hey,

This is my first post here so excuse me if this is in the wrong place!

I'm working on a McCalls Playsuit (link here- http://mccallpattern.mccall.com/m6331-products-13872.php?page_id=108)

I've just assembled the whole garment but it's rather too tight in the crotch area! Now I've been adding to the seam allowance but it's not really making much difference. Is this the right way to go? In my head it should solve the problem. It could be just that I haven't let it out enough.

Is it tight horizontal to the ground (around the hips) or vertical to the ground (too short)? My bet is that it is too short--your torso is longer than the jumpsuit was drafted for. Try reducing the seam allowance at the waist to give you more length.

Ah this is what I feared! The seam allowance at the waist was as short as it could go in the first place.

I'm assuming the only way now is to buy more fabric and cut the shorts again but this time longer?

Yep, afraid so. If you have scraps large enough and don't want to start over, you can add a midriff to give you more length. But really, you're going to get the best fit by altering the crotch, not messing with the waist. This book has a good explanation.

Oh but I thought you said it would be best to lengthen at the waist as opposed to the crotch?

Just looked and I don't have enough fabric. Think I'll try putting in a panel like you suggested.

I'll let you know how I get on!

Hi!

Just wanted to say thanks so much for your help. I added an extra panel at the waist and now it fits a dream! You can hardly notice it in the print either.

I would post an image but not sure how!

Thanks again
