Burda pattern 9524 HELP!

I have come to the collar and find that the two "bands" in the front two halves make the neckline too big for the collar! The collar comes to exactly where the bands start. So this makes me think that these bands shouldn't be there!?, should they be incorporated into the front sections instead of added, not according to instructions - it clearly says to add these bands. And - if they are not, then the front of the shirt is not wide enough and also if I turn these bands in, it hits the pocket. I have re-read the directions several times and cannot understand why the collar is too small, what have I done wrong? I have cut the correct size, the correct patterns pieces for the collar and collar stand. Is this a known issue with this pattern? I have placed a question into Burda but have not heard. Has anyone had a problem similar to this one? I'm not an expert nor a beginner -I find myself having repeated problems with Burda, but I love their sytles. I'd appreciate some help... thanks.
