Sarah Veblen bust fitting class What does HBL mean?

I decided to get them out today and was reading through the ''walking seams'' portion - lesson 2. She states to ''walk from the HBL up and then the HBL down''. I don't remember or understand what HBL means . Anyone have an answer for me? There's probably a very simple explanation TIA.

Here's an excerpt in Sarah's words: Establishing a HBL: HBL's are always perpendicular to the center front and the grainline. Often you can use a lengthen/shorten line that the pattern provides for the HBL. For a bodice, it's best to have the HBL between the bust and the waist. For a dress or tunic, there should be an additional HBL near the hip level. If you're not sure about the location of the HBL, it's fine to have several.

Date: 5/6/12 2:36 PM I was trained to use an HBL in design school for draping and all fitting. It is incredibly useful for diagnosing where things are hiking up or sagging down. I also took 2 of Sarah's fitting classes and was delighted that she made good use of them too. For something like a FBA (full-bust adjustment), the HBL reveals the top down dimension can be short, pulling up, even though you may have enough going around the bust fullness width. It's a great diagnostic tool for all garment fitting. Good luck with your progress! ------ Sometimes she didn't always follow the recipe.
