I visited Fancy Tiger in Denver today (NAYY) because of an email I received about a sale on Amy Butler rayon fabric. I've been there many times, but today looking at all of the fabric was a beautiful overload of visual sensation. They mostly have cottons...so many beautiful colors and designs...

I found the rayon that was on sale and it not only looked beautiful, but felt soft and draped wonderfully.
I grabbed a bolt of Sari Blooms in raspberry and was walking around the store looking at other fabrics. I had gone in thinking the sale was 30 percent off, but one of the people who work there walked by me and mentioned that it was 50 percent off when she saw the bolt I was carrying. Now my head was really spinning.

I ended up with almost 4 yards (and it's 57 inches wide!) for half off--it was normally $14 a yard. Now I just have to figure out what to do with it.

So....have any of you ever felt intoxicated in a fabric store and been seduced by fabric that you had to have?

P.S. If you're ever Denver, Fancy Tiger is a must on your list of places to go.

They we're talking about a book on the news, Fifty Shades of Gray, that has women mesmerized. It must be about fabric shopping, right?

In answer to your question, yes. And I especially love a find like yours that yields an extravagant abundance of fabric for a project that you might not normally buy for.

No. You're the only one that's ever happened to.

The Renaissance costuming board I belong to has an ongoing multipage thread for just such occurrences called "Fabricholism." We post photos of our best finds and latest fabric crushes.

Let's just say it is a really good thing I'm 9 hours and an international border away from Ginny's Fine Fabrics and Support Group in Rochester, MN. When you go to a fabric store and have to take a lunch break before finalizing your purchases -- you know you're in trouble.

I don't have to go to the fabric store to be seduced by fabric.. Plenty of members here do that on threads all the time.. Lynn Rowe use to seduce us with fabric instead of featherweights.. Haven't seen many fabric pics from her in a while.. What a shame.. or a blessing.. Depends on your budget ..

Or forgo that potty break! ('')
Really, I don't think anyone ever thought of tackling a 12-Step Program for such addiction, time better spent on creating....

Sounds like a must see store. Any other suggestions for fabric shopping in the Denver/Boulder area? No point in taking a vacation if you can't do a little fabric shopping, right?

Denver Fabrics (the brick and mortar store) used to be great...now just okay. There's a new store I went to for the first time a few weeks ago: Fabric Bliss. Mostly cottons, quilting.

If you get to Denver before July 8, there's the Yves Saint Laurent Retrospective--have to remind myself to get tickets soon.

I also like Sewciety, which is close by in Castle Rock, but again, cottons and quilting.

Edited to Add--just remembered a couple more:

Elfriede's Fine Fabrics in Boulder, although I haven't been there in a while (make sure you go to McGuckin's Hardware and Pearl Street Mall while you're in Boulder), and Tactile Arts, which I really don't know how to explain--it's a non-profit and they offer classes and I've been to "garage sales" they've had where people have donated sewing-related items.

Oh, yes... I definitely have fabricaholism!

Went to a class today at Stonemountain & Daughter in Berkeley, CA. The upstairs, where the classes take place, is also the half off area where they have TONS of fabric for half price. A lot of wools, knits, silks and other beautiful fabrics. I just bought 4.5 yds of this beautiful plaid... it's black background with some tan & purple plaid, but very large and spaced out... it's actually RAINWEAR, so thick, but slightly waterproof... it will make a perfect short trench that I can't wait to make!! Course I also picked up a pretty tangerine knit - it is THE color of the year you know :-)
And since I was there last week for the first part of the class, I bought some pretty eco cottons that I thought I might enter the contest for, but didn't end up having the time and also picked up this GORGEOUS purple drape fabric that I will use for something decorative in my new sewing room... it's 108"!!!

Anyways... just babbling about my finds cuz no one else around here cares!
