Hi everyone! Iím a brand new sewer and thinking about getting into machine embroidery. Iíve researched machines and software and I have some questions so I thought Iíd ask the experts :)

Iím looking at the Brother PE500 or SE400. I would mostly do 3 initial monograms using the Empire and Diamond font. I also like Curlz for single initials. I will need software for putting the 3 initials together, correct? Since Iím thrifty, is there free software that can do this in a PES format? Do I need digitizing software or editing software or are those the same thing?

Thanks so much in advance for helping a newbie out!

I just spent a lovely evening with my daughter trying to monogram with my brother 780D. I finally did do it on my computer with embird. I never found a free software. The janome 350e does do monograms without a program. I don't know about the cheaper models as that is the only one I compared when shopping. I would have bought the janome if I could have afforded it at the time.

I would recommend Embrilliance for a low-cost software. Not free, but it does quite a bit. You'll love the envelopes (shaped monograms). 30-day free trial.

Not free by any means, but you can shop around for a good price like www.marvelouscreations.com for Monogram Wizard Plus by Parametric Systems--better known as Needleheads. You can't beat the quality of the stitchouts. What you work up as a design can be saved in many formats. Go to www.needleheads.com to see some of the fonts available. I have the software and love it!

I just found this free offer at Amazing Designs - Click here. The offer is for a limited time only. I ordered so I could reveiw it.

I already have PE Design 6, Designer's Gallery and Universal Sitich Era.

I paid $20 for a used PE6, DG came with my embroidery machine and USE is free, but complicated as it is a limited edition.

Thanks everyone for all of your advice! My SE400 came yesterday. I decided to use Wilcom Truesizer for software. We'll see how it goes!

Have a great weekend everyone!
