I want to make some small tool 6x8 zipper top bags for work. Very new at machine sewing about 3 months. Ideas for needle and thread and any thing would be great. I have the se400. Maybe embroided my name on the bag. Hard to lose the bag that way. Thanks

Welcome and good luck!!

Duck cloth sounds like it would be good for this project - But you will want to use a heavier needle -- They make them for Jeans/Upholstery and too many others.

When I'm doing pillows in home dec, I put in the Jeans needles. Hope someone more expert comes along with more ideas -- You probably want to put your name on the cloth before sewing using a different type needle? Or on a square of fabric you can add that is the weight you can use your fancy embroidery on :-)

Edited -- here is a great overview on Needles - Hope this helps :-)

Thanks for the advice. Starting out with a new machine can be tough till you figure it all out. I am going to use c&c dual duty thread to sew the sides. The installation of the zipper I have not figure it out yet. IDEAS?

Subject: using duck cloth Date: 5/17/12 10:23 PM

I just finished my first project. Made a top zipper tool pouch 7 inches by 10 inches. I embroidered my name and what's inside. Wonder if I could sell a few at work. I love my brother se400.
