I got the 7 full hexies for the center done, (except for sewing on the very center hexy- still want to see them all laid out before I make those permanent) and 2 of the half-hexies done. Still have the side quarter hexies to do.

I was using the 'scant' 1/4" seam, and had to switch it to a regular 1/4 inch. Now they lay flat! I have to go back and fix 2 of the ones that just will NOT lay flat.

I think I am going to use the same small polka dot print for ALL the centers along the edges, then use the bigger polka dot for the first border. I LOVE the polka dots!

I also have the large yellow floral print for a big border. Since I had to reduce the pattern 25% to be able to use my fat quarters, I want it to be bigger. I have the 2 shades of blue also that are part of the Summer Breeze II line.

here is the album:

I thought I had a picture of the small polka dots, but I don't. This is the large one, the small is the same colors but small dots. Here are my border fabrics.

Finished the partial hexies! Still need to sew the yellow centers, glad I didn't before because I shuffled them around a bit.

I added more pics to the album too.

I will add a strip of the navy on the sides with the 1/4 hexies.

Cat, this is so pretty. I just love it. The pattern looks hard to do, but you make it sound simple.

It's really a simple pattern. I downloaded it, printed it out and made a template out of it.

The biggest challenge is to cut the template plastic straight. And I realized that's why the scant 1/4" wasn't working out.

I cut the paper pattern out on the outside edge of the cutting line, then traced it onto the template plastic and cut that out on the outside edge. Between those 2 edges, there was my "scant" portion of that scant 1/4" seam.

Since it's not precision machine cute, the template is not perfect. But it really doesn't matter! It is a simple design.

You could SO make this quilt!

The top is all sewn and borders are SO close to being done too!

After watching the videos on mitered borders, I realized I can sew all the border strips together and attach them as one. DUH! LOL!

I knew I wanted mitered borders, and I am not very good at math, so I HOPE the other 3 corners work out. The first one I did was EXACTLY the right size, not even an eighth of an inch for wiggle room. UGGGG.....I am just praying I don't have to add little bits to the border ends to be able to make those other miters. I LOVE them and will do whatever it takes to make them happen!

I only had 1 yard of the big polka dots and the yellow floral, (the discussion on how much fabric to buy was so relevant to me! It would have been nice to have more to work with). Hubby wasn't so sure about the polka dots, but I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them, and decided to save it for the border instead of using it for center hexies like my original plan. I am glad I did! I really love them!

top put together, waiting for borders

borders laid out, corners aren't fixed, just laid flat

1st miter! Just basted and not pressed yet
