I just ordered my first Islander men's shirt pattern. Men's Islander shirt pattern & I am considering ordering the Classic Sport men's shirt pattern too. I am wondering has anyone made the Classic Sport shirt by Islander ? What do you think? .... from the computer view it looks like it could be made into a dress shirt or more casual work shirt.
I am kinda excited about this. I am intrigued by the style of them really as is DH.
Do you think this would be a good pattern in seersucker fabric?

Thank you for the info!

I went ahead & ordered the Classic Sport shirt pattern also. I think the style will be nice for DH ... he liked the looks of it on the computer screen. The view with short sleeves is what he likes for summer / fall.

If anyone made it how did you like the way it came out?

I love the Islander products. The shirts fit well and directions are good. I bought the DVD's and they were an excellent investment.
Hope you like the shirts as much as I have.

Completely agree with MizLiz. The Easy Shirts DVD is worth the money and then some.

I would say it depends on what you are considering dress. For my husband as a minister in our religion, the shirt would be too casual for dress. My father on the other hand is a different religion and is a chaplain and this is the kind of shirt he always wears as a chaplain. For my husband the islander "dress" shirt would work though.

This particular shirt is too loose of a fit and the back part with the tuck makes it a bit more summer vacation/casual then the "dress" shirt pattern.

But, again it depends, is he a lawyer, is he a dr, or is he going golfing? What kind of "dress" up is he needing? As a lawyer this in my opinion is NOT dressy enough, but to go golfing at say a country club or such with a dress code it would be fine.

All professions, and religions, kind of have their own level of dressy enough if you know what I mean.

I have the Islander Shirt pattern and have used it a number of times --- it is a bit fussy to cut because the right and left sides of the front are different pattern pieces, but it is worth the effort. It is a beautifully drafted shirt pattern.

One odd thing about it is the grain line on the yoke runs from shoulder to shoulder rather than top to bottom as on the body pieces so if you are using a stripe or other fabric where the difference would be obvious, make sure you have extra fabric so you can flip the yoke pieces.

I enjoy making shirts and use a KS pattern as my standard men's sport shirt pattern and the Islander Sport Shirt when I'm making something special. I'm sure you will like the pattern.

Thank you for the tip. Do you think an extra 1/2 yard is enough ? or even a 1/3 yard extra ? ...Thanks so much!

This is the description the Islander page:

Quote:
Industrial Shortcuts II Shirts, Etc! Industrial Shortcuts II Shirts, Etc!
Margaret's DVD, Shirts, Etc.! reveals industrial sewing secrets and "desperation" techniques that give you professional-looking top-quality shirts for men and women. All of the techniques you'll learn will work just as well on other sewing projects. Again, no pins - no basting!
Price: $71.95

So - I guess the name is Industrial Shortcuts II Shirts, Etc!

It is an excellent DVD and it is worth the sticker-shock price. I don't think I paid that much for it but maybe I did. I tried to get it from my library but it wasn't available even through interlibrary loan. You can try that. Maybe you'll have more luck than me.
