If I'm not mistaken, carpenter pants are those that have loops on them to hold hammers, etc. and are basically a cargo pant pattern but don't have the big pockets in the front. They are made out of heavy cotton twill or denim. Here's a picture to give you an idea of the sides: click here I would bet you can use a cargo pants pattern and modify them, using the picture.

I would have thought that KwikSew would have a pair but they don't appear to. I would just use a straight-leg jean pattern and add the loops and pockets you want. If you've got a RTW pair you want to recreate just trace the pockets and placements and add to your pattern.

Burda 2713 has been my best starting point. Then I just traced the pockets on a RTW pair to make them carpenter style. It may be OOP, not sure.

Kwik Sew's jeans are too fitted for carpenter jeans.

The Jalie pants may be a good starting point, too. The Burda fits DH the best!

Stay away from Hot Patterns.

I think there was an older Jalie jeans pattern that had the carpenter pant features...
