I am making shorts with a front zipper and waist band. It has been a while since I made anything with a fitted waist.
I am short from waist to hip and slant down in the front.
What is causing me problems is the hip fluff on the side. Maybe not a problem as I got the band to fit but I don't understnd how the shaping can be so odd?
I lowered the center back stitching line by 1/2". I lowered the stitching line at center front by 3/4". At the side I had to lower the stitching line by 1 1/4".
So the waist band sits higher at center back then swoops down at the side seam then back up for center front.
Anybody else have this odd shape?
You would think with the hip fluff the sides would be higher than center front and back?
It took me all day to get the pattern to fit and sewn together. They do fit well but I don't like how they look on me. Maybe it's the length? After DH gets home from work I will get some pictures and post so you ladies can tell me what you think.

Your shape is not odd! It is unique to you. I am lower in the center back at my waistline but loooong to the end of my fanny. Front is lower also. I have to add to the side seams to fit my hip fluff and can no longer wear fitted waistbands. The band must be all gathers or all gathered in the back and flat in the front.
