Can't remember squat

The last time I cut them, I had no problems. This time, I am having trouble remembering how to fold them for cutting. I needed to press the fabrics, so I did. Now, do I line up the edges of the cut fabric on either side, or try to line up the salvages? Darn if I remember. I have some of my tri-color strips sewn and cut into 3 1/2 inch strips. I need 60 tri-colored blocks and have 11 done. I have the 12 tan colored blocks ready, and 12 of the brown print blocks. ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. Here are two: 1. Fold one selvedge edge up to the other. Usually it helps to hold the fabric up and shift one selvedge edge left and right until you don't have too many/any folds in your fabric hanging down. Straighten your edge (which may be uneven) by putting one ruler line at the selvedge and one ruler line at the fold (they should be parallel to each other). Cut your edge 90 degrees to the fold/selvedge. Now use that cut edge to line up your ruler and cut your strips. 2. Tear your fabric alone the grainline (tear from selvedge to selvedge). Line that torn edge up with itself - your selvedge may be uneven. Trim off the torn edge and then use that cut edge to line up your ruler and cut your strips. Good luck!! I "sleep on it" and usually by morning it will all be clear. Now, my last bout of CRS lasted well into the next morning. I was traveling down the road, concentrating on driving and traffic when it hit me. It was such a brain storm, I didn't even have to record it. Quilting! Create with software and stitch with the embroidery machine! Perfect stitches and perfect designs. I hope this will work - concentrate on something else and it may soon come to you!

Mostly because I've had some really off grain fabric and it's a bear to straighten when you have several yards you are trying to cut (for borders) If you're cutting from smaller lengths, such as less than a yard, try folding the fabric on the grainline and smooth it out carefully, making sure there are no bumps along the fold. The edges might not match, which means you will have to cut them to straighten. Then start cutting. My thinking is that the thread in the grainline will be straight, and as long as you can keep that fold flat and line up the lines on your ruler with the fold, you should be fine. ------ "We don't impose our rhythm on Nature. Two of the fabrics I am ok with. I just have trouble remembering how to fold one of them. How strange is that? I have not had time to watch the video. It should help me when I do. Learn To Sew   Intermediate WA USA Member since 4/12/05 Posts: 7982	Login to reply to this post Like this post Date: 5/27/12 6:19 PM Can someone explain to me why when I line up my fabric with my 6x24 ruler with the fabric at the outside of the 1 1/2 inch mark, that the top and bottom of the fabric lines up correctly, but in the middle it could be too wide or too narrow? Why is this happening? I learned in class to line it up with the markes on the inside of the line and not the outside. Now using the outside of the line and not the inside of the line, it does not line up as well. What gives? ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors. Just lining up the ruler. The middle of the fabric, fold to salvage, is always just a little bit narrower than up at the salvage and down at the fold. I just do not get it. No the ruler is not slipping, as it is a creative grid one and has the non slip things on the back. ------ Quilting is relaxing to me. I love to play with fabrics, patterns and colors.
