Date: 5/28/12 10:45 AM I've heard that there is a different brand of sewing machine which is manufactured by Bernina, but is less expensive and sold under a different name. Does anyone know what it is? |

Date: 5/28/12 11:15 AM Bernette is marketed through Bernina but made by another company. (Juki?)
Much lower price points, usually entry-level machines. |

They were made by Brother.. I do know Janome makes their Embroidery machines .. the current line.. but I think that the Bernette line of sewing machines is still made by Brother. Who btw made their older line of embroidery machines. |

Date: 5/28/12 4:00 PM The older Bernina embroidery machines were made my Brother (deco 500) then they switched to Janome. I believe they also make Bernettes. ------ My grandmother taught me to sew when I was 10, and I've been sewing ever since. |

Date: 5/28/12 4:10 PM Bernettes are the machines to which you refer. I would hardly call them an off brand though! They are quite nice machines. You can see them here:

Date: 5/29/12 12:58 PM Thanks for all the replies. I'm not referring to Bernette, I thought those were just a different model made by Bernina.
But somewhere on this board (I can't find it!) I saw a discussion that said that Bernina manufactures the same models that are sold under the Bernina name, but they are sold under a different company name altogether, nothing that sounds like Bern...
I have a Bernina Activa 230, and so from what I understood, there would be a machine of the same quality and features that just goes by a completely different name. |

Date: 5/29/12 2:00 PM What you may be thinking of is that JUKI makes Bernina sergers! I wonder if that is it. So you can buy a JUKI and save a pile serger-wise. ------ "Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible."

Date: 5/29/12 4:59 PM that's it. I didn't realize it was just sergers not sewing machines. |

Date: 5/31/12 4:08 PM The Bernina 950 is also sold as a Tac Sew something.
The new Bernettes (models 12, 15, 20 and 25) are totally different from previous ones, from anything else I've seen, really. Lots of features for $300-700. Anyone have one and care to review? Any idea who makes them?
