Need an Opinion - I want to make this top (I will need to size it up). I purchased some orange, striped silk for the contrast front. I also found some solid orange silk that I thought would work for the rest of the top. However, the solid is a much lighter weight than the stripe, so I would need to line it. It was suggested to me by a sewing friend (who is very small) that I should consider using white solid instead of the orange for my top because in my size that would just be an overwhelming amount of orange. I draped both ideas on my dressform...pictures attached. I am not good at this type of thing and I want this to look good on me. Any thoughts? I think the white is definitely a more understated look, so I am thinking she may be right.BurdaStyle

I personally LOVE it with the white linen. Esp as the stripe has some white in it.
But YOU will be wearing it and so you must love however you decide too.

As someone that wears a lot of orange, I'd go with the white as well.

What a gorgeous dress!

I think I'm going to be the odd one out here. I like both, but I would go with the orange. I think it grounds the stripe.

I think either would be quite nice.

And I think your friend's off-base that the orange would be too much "at your size." Personally, "at my size" I'm far more inclined to go with a color than white, because imo white tends to make things look bigger! Your orange may not be for the faint of heart, but it's not going to make you look any bigger than white would.

PJ,

I love the orange, it looks fantastic.. with the white your stripes are washed out.. Going by your profile, haircolour, I reckon you will be able to carry off the orange beautiful..

Please share photos when you finished..

I love the white. It's not a size thing for me, I just think it is very pretty.

Both are pretty, but white has the edge for me. It just looks very fresh and modern with the orange stripes as a contrast.

The white is far prettier, it really makes the orange stripe pop!
