Confirm my suspicions

Hello, folks,

I'm noodling around with the idea of replicating a beautiful Ann Taylor maxi skirt. For (way less than!) $178, I'm certain I could make my own version in silk, not polyester!

I'm rather new to silks, so I need my suspicions confirmed. I want to use a chiffon for the shell and a China silk for the lining? Something else? Is any silk really bearable in, say, a Florida summer?

Thank you for your thoughts!

We use alot of silk chiffon at work, and the weight we get 8mm, would be too sheer for that skirt, and it doesn't have much drape. I'm thinking a lightweight silk crepe or georgette might be better.

Excellent! That's exactly the sort of advice I need, Diane, since I don't know my silks. Thank you! I'll start looking along those lines.

If anyone else has any thoughts, please, sock 'em to me!

Silk crepe is my vote. Lined with silk chiffon. You need the heavier weight of crepe to get that floating and drape.

This looks like georgette. it's slightly sheer and has a great drape and hand.
