Hi, I hope I'm posting this in the correct place. I have a wonderful Bernina that doesn't have the pressure adjustment for the presser foot. To help in stitching knits, several have suggested I use either a Walking Foot or a Roller Foot. Do any of you use either one with this machine? Any pros and/or cons for choosing which one to buy? Also, since my machine is elderly, I appreciate your advice on which version to buy- a Bernina or an alternate brand. Ideas on prices? Another suggestion was to get a sheet of teflon and cut a piece to glue onto the bottom of a basic foot. Haven't found a source, know of any? Thanks in advance.

Your post reminded me that I needed to write up instructions for adjusting the presser foot pressure on a Bernina 930 Record. My machine tech showed me how.

Instructions are here.

Since you are sewing knits on a 930, you may also be interested in the whole thread.

Oh, this method for carefully adjusting the pressure is very helpful- many thanks! I'm glad I reminded you. It looks like your method will do the trick for me. My very handy husband will help or coach me. He put in a refurbished motor a few years ago on my Bernina 830 and used to have a camera repair business. So, he will be sure to do this with care.

Do you make this adjustment for knits and then move it back to the factory setting good for most fabrics? Or, do you leave your machine at the lighter pressure knit setting and that works just as well for most fabrics without the additional pressure?

I've also read the Whole Thread- thanks for pointing me in that direction. It's really helpful to see what folks are saying. I'll add some other things over there.

Wendy -- I have not changed it since I decreased the pressure in April. It has been fine for the wovens I've sewn since then, which have been, if I recall, a quilting-weight cotton, some very fine cotton batiste, a lightweight rayon woven, and I made some Studio Cherie luggage tags with quilting cotton and really thick Peltex interfacing. Stitch quality has been fine, too.

I think I could probably go even lighter on the pressure for my summer-weight knits, but I'm not sure how good I'd be about readjusting the pressure for each project. (I'm lazy.) So I'm hoping I've found, or can find, a more or less all-purpose setting I can use for most fabrics.

I suspect lazy might not be a good descriptor! However, I too would like to find a happy, more or less all-purpose setting for most fabrics. Thanks for answering so specifically about what you've been sewing using the new pressure setting. I so love my 930 and can see sticking with it indefinitely.
