Serging sweater knits?
Which machine to choose?Blanket stitch option would be a real plus.

Hi,
In my rather desperate search for a serger that can sew medium thick woolen knitted fabrics - I came across the Juki 735. Does anyone have experience with sewing sweater knits with this machine?
I'd also be really happy to have some opinions about the Pfaff coverlock 3.0 for the same purposes. (only one review here)
These two machines do not have the blanket stitch option which I actually would really like - does anyone know a machine that does, at around the same price (850 Euros)? I saw the Elna 745 has this function, but it is more than 200 Euros extra....that I don't have.

I have the Pfaff Coverlock 3.0 and I would not recommend it for sewing sweater knits or anything else for that matter. I have had difficulty sewing on even lightweight knits. This machine is VERY touchy and temperamental. Threading is a nightmare. Tension is supposed to be automatically set for each stitch but is often not right causing thread breakage. Adjustments to the tension do not hold from the beginning of a seam to the end of that same seam. My advice: Stay away from this machine!!

Winter-sewing thoughts....

How would you finish a sweater knit neck on a regular machine?
The simple round-neck ones, sometimes with just batwing or T-shape sleeves, are popular now for layering. Do you use a ribbon reinforcement, bias tape, what at the neck--staystitch too.

Also, I have seen you can re-purpose pullovers into cardigans by splitting up the middle, folding back edges and backing with ribbon edging. Anyone done this?
