My husband and I will be in Montreal and quebec city in July, on vacation. Are there any nice fabric stores in these cities? Also what about quilt fabric stores? Thanks for any info .

You will definitely want to check out St. Hubert Street -- blocks of fabric and notions stores. This was our main shopping area for PR Weekend in Montreal in 2010. If you are travelling on the metro/subway you can get off at the Jean Talon station (I think that's the right name) and you are really close.

I brought back a lot of fabric from the trip (still trying to sew it all up) -- stores I really remember are Ultratext (great trims and notions); Tissus Tueni (fabulous selection of silks); C&M (large store) and Couture Carlyle (I think that's the right name). There were several stores I didn't make it into -- I hear Sam's was great. There is also Tonitex on St. Laurent (I think) -- there's also Suzie Spandex and Stretch Text but I'm not sure if they are open to the public or if you have to make an appointment.

I'm sure some locals will pipe in with more selections -- nothing to offer on Quebec City (last time I was there I spent all my time between the hotel and the arena). You will want to make time for old Quebec -- lots of neat shops there.

Have fun -- both are great cities to visit rich with history and unique shopping experiences.

Suzi Spandex is indeed open to the public! It was the only fabric store I visited when I was there on business in March. It's in the middle of nowhere in an office building reminiscent of the NY Fashion District (ie: mostly unmarked building, go up the lift and ring a buzzer to be let in), but I'm SO SO glad I hiked out there because their own milled supplex (Suziplex) is out of this world fantastic and I'm already planning a bigger suitcase for my next work trip...

But yeah, make sure you print out the address and take it with you! There also looked to be like one or two other fabric stores on the same street but I had extremely limited time and couldn't investigate.

Suzie Spandex is on St. Laurent -- I purchase from them regularly . Their Suziplex fabric is absolutely amazing -- I use it for a lot of my product line athletic wear and team wear. They also have a great selection of basic nylon spandex fabrics and lots of different prints, some tie-dye chiffons and sequined meshes.

Stretch Text is in the same building (3 floors down if I remember correctly). Another great supplier of stretch fabrics (including lots of knits).

Around the corner is Tonitex.

Definitely worth the visit if you can find the time.

Does anyone know if Tissus Claudiany is still in business?

They had beautiful knits and Jalie patterns.

They are/were across the bridge and south of Quebec City. Lovely shop and nice folks to deal with.
