I'm planning to purchase a Janome coverpro 1000CPX & the only local dealer quoted me a price of $650.00. I have found another dealer (farther away) that has one as their display model & will sell for $450.00 She says it has barely been used. They only keep 1 in stock at a time; sell it; and then order another one. Does this sound like a good deal? I've never used a coverstitch, so I can't really test it since I don't know how it should work.

Also, I wondered what accessories typically come with this machine, so I can make sure I get everything.

The one for $450 is a wonderful deal, as long as she's correct about its condition. This model's price has increased quite a bit in the past couple of years, your local dealer's price is about on target with what I've seen elsewhere. I say go check out the one for $450. When I bought my machine my dealer gave me the extension table for free. I don't remember if that kit also included the see thru foot, or if that foot was a typical one with the machine. Have you taken a look at the pinned CoverPro threads, especially the ones written by Nancy on the binders?

If you've used a serger before I think you'll find threading the Coverpro will be much easier than a regular overlock. I'd go and play around with one, even if you don't initially know what you're doing. Have fun!

I have a Coverpro 1000 that I got as a floor model six or seven years ago. I use it all the time and it is still chugging along great. I've never even taken it in for cleaning.

I use it for all of my hems--clothes, curtains--everything. It just always does a lovely job. The 450 sounds like a great price. I would definitely recommend getting it.

I think $450 sounds like a very good deal. Coverstitch machines are very easy to use. You should have no problem learning to use one.

The accessories that are included are minimal -- screw driver, thread nets, package of needles. The most useful accessories to buy are the small white extension table and the Center Guide Foot, the latter of which is quite expensive. Ken's Sewing 1-877-KENSSEW has the best prices on accessories.

$450 is a very good deal, I would jump on it!

You'll probably want to purchase after market binders for it... to make more RTW knit projects, but you can always get those later. Look on ebay for the best deals!

Great deal! Get it. I agree with Nancy2001 that the center guide foot and table are the most useful accessories. These machines are so simple to use, and to thread, that you should not have a problem

Keep in mind that you may or may not like using the binders. Many people who bought binders found that they presented no real advantage over the traditional, two step method of attaching the collar -- with the sewing machine/serger followed by the twin needle.

$450 sounds very good. I just purchased the 1000cpx last week at my local dealer, who has competitive pricing, for $650. I brought some fabric samples with overlocked seams to try out hemming. The machine is super easy to use and thread.

I got a "Mother's Day Special" at 599. He said it was the lowest he would ever go. I love it.

I paid $600 for mine about 1.5 years ago so the $450 sounds like a super deal. Plus it being a floor model has the advantage that you know it's all working correctly. Fresh out of the box doesn't always mean it will be working perfectly. Have fun ... I love mine!
